When setting up the distillery in his native Fermanagh, Joe wanted the full involvement of his family. To be honest, they were the only people crazy enough to support his wild and audacious plan of opening Fermanagh’s first legal distillery since 1890. From the very first moment his sister, Teresa, has been the Boatyard rock and having her as part of the team makes it very special.
On finishing school Teresa went to work in the banking sector, leaving home and living in London. She worked for several legal firms and partners in London’s Threadneedle Street, before coming back to Fermanagh, via Dublin.
At the distillery Teresa carries out the important tasks to make the business tick, in particular she manages all the administration and logistics, not to mention keeping Joe’s admin in check. She was also instrumental in chairing the founding tasting panel, and throughout her working period remains close to the production.
Away from distillery life, her greatest pride is her daughters who she is always there for to support. Like many in Fermanagh, Teresa is a music lover and you will often hear her humming to Kenny Rogers and other country stars.
If enjoying Boatyard, Teresa would opt for our vodka and add it to a Lemon Drop cocktail. She is also partial to a glass of ice-cold Chardonnay wine.
